Watch Tower
See every nursery clearly. Fix what matters first. Be inspection-ready every day, not just on inspection day.
Watch Tower turns quality visits into Ofsted-aligned reports, SMART action plans and a live picture of risk across your settings, with maintenance, compliance and staff certificates tracked in the same place.

Quality assurance shouldn't live in a ring binder
Most nursery groups run quality visits on paper or spreadsheets. Findings get typed up days later, actions live in emails, and nobody can say for sure whether last month's fridge fault was ever fixed. Watch Tower closes those gaps.
Without Watch Tower
- Checklists on clipboards, typed up days later
- Grades vary from one visitor to the next
- Actions buried in email threads, with no owner or date
- Certificates and gas checks lapse without anyone noticing
- Area managers visit on rota, not on risk
With Watch Tower
- Room-by-room checks on a phone, with photo evidence, offline
- Every report graded against the same Ofsted descriptors
- Every failed check becomes a SMART action with an owner and due date
- Compliance and certificates tracked, with reminders before they lapse
- An explainable risk radar shows which setting needs you next
The assurance loop
Every visit builds on the last. Open actions carry forward into the next inspection until someone has checked they are really fixed.
-
1
Plan
Schedule monthly, quarterly, biannual, annual or ad-hoc visits on a shared calendar.
-
2
Inspect
Work room by room on a phone or tablet. Only the checks due at this frequency appear. Add photos, videos and notes.
-
3
Score
A weighted score is calculated as you go: Pass, Fail or Immediate Action Required.
-
4
Review & grade
Grade the six Ofsted evaluation areas and safeguarding, with the official descriptors beside you.
-
5
Sign off
An Area Support Manager approves the report, or sends it back for rework. It locks and produces PDFs.
-
Act & verify
Failed checks become SMART actions. They carry into the next visit until a reviewer verifies them.
A visit that does the paperwork for you
The checklist knows what is due, where each check applies and what good looks like. Your visitor walks the setting; Watch Tower scores, files and follows up.
- Temperatures fail automatically outside safe ranges: fridges 1–5°C, freezers −18°C or colder, hot food 63°C or hotter
- Staff interviews from a question bank, with Excellent, Adequate or Poor ratings that create development actions
- Flag maintenance issues as Advisory, Required or Urgent without leaving the checklist
- Several visitors can inspect at once, with live sync and a team chat
Scored by rules. Graded by people.
The checklist score is objective and automatic. The Ofsted-style judgement stays with your experienced reviewers, with the official descriptors in front of them.
Weighted checklist score
Every check carries a weight, so a safeguarding failure counts for more than a scuffed skirting board.
Six evaluation areas, five grades
Aligned with Ofsted's Early Years inspection toolkit, with strengths and areas for improvement recorded for each.
Illustrative example.
Two pairs of eyes on every report
A lead reviews, a manager signs off. Every edit to a grade or narrative is kept in its history.
-
Submitted
The visitor submits. Optional AI drafts the narrative and suggests grades for review.
-
Under review
The Area Support Lead checks evidence, edits the narrative and sets the grades.
-
Pending manager approval
The Area Support Manager reviews, or requests rework with notes.
-
Signed off
The report locks. Inspection report and action plan PDFs are produced and the actions go live.
Nothing falls through the cracks
Every failed check becomes a SMART action: what needs to happen, who owns it, what evidence proves it, and when it's due, counted in working days with bank holidays skipped.
Blocked needs a reason. Only a reviewer can mark an action Verified. Managers get a weekly digest of what's due, a daily alert for anything overdue, and reviewers are reminded about work waiting to be verified.
How an action follows the nursery
Linked maintenance tickets close the action automatically when the work is signed off.
Premises, people and paperwork, on schedule
Statutory checks, staff certificates and repairs each run on their own clock. Watch Tower keeps every clock in view.
Compliance cycles
Twelve premises checks, each on its own interval. Intervals can be adjusted for your group.

Maintenance, start to snag-free
Issues found on a visit become tickets, with RAG status worked out from priority and dates.
Track contractor quotes and cost models, then record contractor sign-off as passed clean, passed with snags, or failed. Budget, pipeline and 3, 6 and 12-month history reports are built in.
Staff certificates
Expired and expiring certificates are highlighted. Only area support and that nursery's manager see names; everyone else sees counts.
Visit on risk, not on rota
The risk radar gives every setting a score, and every point comes with a plain-English reason. No black box: just the signals an experienced area manager would look for, gathered automatically.
- Last visit band and score drops
- Checks failing visit after visit
- Overdue and long-running actions
- Critical maintenance
- Overdue compliance checks
- Expired certificates
- Time since the last visit

Illustrative exampleMeet Nina: help that never takes over
Nina is Watch Tower's optional AI assistant. She drafts, suggests and spots gaps. She cannot change a thing on her own, and she can never sign off a report.
Nina proposes
A draft narrative, suggested grades against the Ofsted descriptors, a readiness check, or a five-minute toolbox talk.
You review
Read it, edit it, or regenerate it. Every field keeps its history, so you can always see who changed what.
You decide
Apply it or dismiss it. Sign-off is human-only, and safeguarding concerns always go straight to a person.

How Watch Tower helps your nursery
Ready for Ofsted, any day
Your own visits use the same six areas and descriptors as Ofsted's Early Years toolkit, so there are no surprises on the day.
Evidence at your fingertips
Photos, notes, action updates and signed-off reports are all in one place, ready when an inspector asks to see them.
Consistent across every site
Every visitor uses the same weighted checklist and the same grade descriptors, so results are comparable from site to site.
Problems actually get fixed
Actions have owners, dates and evidence, and they carry forward until a reviewer verifies them.
Safer children, safer buildings
Fridge temperatures, fire checks, gas safety and first aid certificates are tracked before they lapse, not after.
Less admin, more time with children
No typing up clipboards, chasing emails or rebuilding spreadsheets. The report writes itself from the visit.
About grades and AI
Watch Tower supports your own internal quality assurance. Its grading descriptors are aligned with Ofsted's published Early Years inspection toolkit, but Watch Tower grades are internal judgements, not Ofsted outcomes. Watch Tower is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ofsted. AI features are optional and advisory: a person always makes the final decision.
